Toyama Glass Studio

Toyama City, where Toyama Glass Studio is located, is a "city of glass" where the glass-bottle industry developed alongside its history of medicine peddling. Against that backdrop, city-building centered on glass art was advanced, and Toyama Glass Studio was developed as a production base for glass-art artists.

The studio brings together diverse glass-related functions — a production workshop equipped with a glassblowing furnace, a gallery for special exhibitions, a shop space selling works, a second-workshop experience studio, a rental creative studio and more. Working with the Toyama Glass Art Museum and the Toyama Institute of Glass Art, it shares glass culture across the whole area.

Today, Toyama Glass Studio develops making experiences, classes, special exhibitions, collaboration projects and citizen-participation projects, with the aims of "developing and supporting the independence of people who carry glass craft," "spreading and raising awareness of knowledge about glass craft," and "promoting Toyama City's glass-craft industry." From sightseers to younger generations aspiring to make things, it keeps conveying the appeal and possibilities of glass to a wide range of people.

Toyama Glass Studio is a complex equipped with a production workshop, shop gallery, experience workshop and more. From touring glass artists' production sites to the exhibition and sale of works, and making experiences and classes, it handles everything as a whole, playing the role of linking the technique and artistry of glass craft with glass culture as a local industry.

Diverse glass works, from everyday use to art pieces

The in-house shop curates a diverse range of works by glass artists at home and abroad — glasses, plates, vases, accessories and more. It also offers glass products distinctive to Toyama, such as the original brands "TOYAMA ICONIC" and "Toyama Mandara-sai," and the recycled-glass "Remelt Blue" series.

Making one-of-a-kind works through glassblowing experiences and classes

In addition to always-available experience courses such as glassblowing and paperweight-making, it offers kiln-work classes and group experience courses. Under the careful support of glass artists, anyone from elementary-school children to adults can try making one-of-a-kind original works.
