Reela
Simple & Relax — leather room sabot made for everyday home time
Reela is Yamato Co., Ltd.'s room sabot / room shoe line made with natural leather on the upper. Materials are chosen with a Japan-made focus, and each pair is built through in-house processes from cutting to finishing. The lining, insole, and outsole are unified with Japanese-made artificial leather. Inside, a four-layer structure with an original cushion supports a light feel and fit. After stitching, a wooden last is inserted to shape the three-dimensional form — an approach drawn from shoe-making. From Smooth, Velour, Wax, and Gloss to the Office series and web-only items, there are 31+ variations to choose from.
Why We Love It
If you're starting out, the Smooth series is an easy baseline — many colors make it simple to match your room. For a softer mood, try Velour; for a leather you can enjoy with care, go for Wax; and for a dressier look, pick Gloss. For sizing, Reela suggests choosing a pair where the heel is just barely out (or not at all) for easier walking. For gifts, add wrapping, and for shared spaces, the Office series keeps the purpose clear.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Yamato Co., Ltd. is based in Matsuyama, Ehime, and also operates a Tokyo office in Taito-ku. With more than 50 years of shoe-making knowledge and experience, the brand brings careful footwear processes into an indoor pair. The theme is "Simple & Relax," aiming for understated quality that feels natural at home.
A signature choice is natural leather for the upper. In the Smooth series, the leather is chrome-tanned, softened for an easy feel, and finished with pigment for low-maintenance use. For the lining, insole, and outsole, Reela uses Japanese-made artificial leather selected with durability in mind. A four-layer internal build with an original cushion supports lightness and fit.
The lineup expands by texture and use. Smooth is the standard, while Velour uses brushed split leather, Wax uses tannin-tanned leather, and Gloss adds shine and depth. There is also an Office series designed for public use with a durable, lightweight EVA-based original sole and a black insole. Web-only items include metallic colors and other limited models, contributing to 31+ variations.
Production is done in-house from cutting onward, with finishing adjustments made pair by pair. After stitching, a wooden last is inserted to shape the upper ("kata-dashi"). Ordering is available via the official online shop, with payments such as credit card, Amazon Pay, and PayPay. Shipping is handled by Sagawa, typically within about one month, and free shipping is offered for orders of ¥5,500 or more (with some regional exceptions). Gift wrapping and a shopping bag option are also available.
Japan-made focus, from materials onward
Reela pairs natural leather uppers with Japanese-made artificial leather for the lining, insole, and sole. Cutting through finishing is handled in-house, with handwork applied to each pair. The result aims for understated quality that sits naturally in daily home life.
A four-layer build for comfort
Comfort comes from what you can't see: a four-layer structure. An original cushion adds stickiness and durability, while a thin core keeps the shoe light. The goal is a fit that feels easy and stable as you move around the house.
Pick your leather character
Smooth uses chrome-tanned leather with a pigmented finish for easy care. Velour is a brushed leather (split leather), Wax uses tannin-tanned leather, and Gloss brings a deeper, shinier look. Choose by the texture you want to live with.
Shaped with a wooden last ("kata-dashi")
After sewing, the shape is refined with "kata-dashi" — a wooden last is inserted to form the upper. It's a step often used in dress shoes, adapted here to keep the silhouette clean and the fit steady for everyday indoor wear.
