Abe Sangyo is based in Kahoku, Yamagata, and was founded in 1919. ABE HOME SHOES grew from in-house development and the wish to make time at home feel more relaxed. The brand pairs home shoes with small, useful accessories.
The signature Canvas Babouche takes inspiration from Moroccan babouches. It uses 100% cotton canvas on top, PVC for the outsole, and EVA-urethane cushioning. The shape is designed to keep the heel from lifting too easily while walking, and it's offered in sizes from Kids (16-18 cm) up to Extra Large (28-30 cm), with multiple colors.
For colder months, there are boa-lined babouches and high-cut styles. The canvas high-cut + boa combines No.8 canvas on the outside and boa on the inside, with an open heel for easy wear. Wool-blend options, cotton-linen Comfity (cotton/linen/ramie + EVA-urethane), and canvas zori with a PVC bottom round out the choices.
In the factory, work moves through cutting, sewing, gluing, lasting, bonding, and final inspection with tagging. Around 100 home-shoe types are handled yearly, and sewing is done with tight 3-4 mm seam allowances.
