GLEN CLYDE began in November 1992 in Tokyo, starting with a borrowed desk and a single phone line inside a factory. In 1993, the team developed ankle socks and kept refining the idea of how socks can shape everyday style from the feet up.
In 2009, GLEN CLYDE presented "CHUP," a pattern-focused line inspired by traditional motifs from around the world, with names and stories attached to each design. From 2011, the company also expanded overseas wholesale as part of its ongoing growth.
Material curiosity is a major theme. In May 2012, GLEN CLYDE joined the West Indies Sea Island Cotton Association and began R&D for casual socks using Sea Island Cotton. The brand describes its experimentation with yarn twist and specifications, including a review of yarn counts (from 30/2 to 50/3) and applying the update broadly from the 2022 fall/winter season.
In 2017, GLEN CLYDE opened a direct store and announced "LIFE LONG," socks backed by a lifetime exchange guarantee service.
