PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
The history of Gofuku no Kikuya began with a kimono shop opened in Izumio, Taisho Ward, Osaka in 1926. At its founding, it was loved as a local kimono shop centered on formal wear such as kuromontsuki, tomesode, and homongi — delivering ceremonial attire for weddings and ceremonial occasions. With the changing times, the environment surrounding kimono also greatly changed — including the rise of department stores and mass retailers, and the shift to Western clothing.
Amid such changes, from the thought of "wanting people to enjoy kimono more casually," the shop began full-scale handling of recycled kimono and antique kimono. Carefully checking size and condition one item at a time, the shop built up a lineup capable of supporting everything from formal wear to daily wear. Now, with an inventory of nearly 10,000 items at all times as a recycled kimono shop, orders come in from nationwide.
In the early 2000s, the shop launched its in-house online shop, and now boasts over 20 years of experience since starting online mail order. Through member newsletters, note serializations, and SNS such as X and Instagram, the shop shares kimono trivia and coordination hints weekly. Combining physical stores, EC, and SNS, the shop continues to carefully guide both "people who want to make kimono their work" and "people who want to enjoy them as a hobby" on how to engage with kimono.
