ISAMI -Isami Tabi Honpo-
Founded in 1907 (Meiji 40), specialty in Oka-tabi. A tabi brand delivering "ISAMI's world" from the feet — with careful stitches and mode sensibility.
Isami Tabi Honpo is a tabi maker founded in 1907 (Meiji 40) in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. Under an integrated production system at its own factory, the company has continued tabi making centered on "Oka-tabi" for over 115 years. The corporate philosophy is "With one careful stitch, create a valuable future." Inheriting 600 years of tabi culture while skilled artisans — including traditional craftspeople — breathe life into each piece of cloth, carefully sewing tabi that color the wearer's every day. Beyond classic white, navy, and black tabi, the appeal is the rich lineup where tradition and mode intersect — batik patterns, washi cloth, faux leather, short tabi, tabi slippers "Raku," and the boot-type Oka-tabi "Itadaki" by collaboration with model Miyu Kawabata.
Why We Love It
A long-established maker continuing for over 100 years in Gyoda City — the setting of the drama "Rikuoh." Hats off to the sense that elevates traditional "Oka-tabi" techniques into modern fashion! Pop-patterned tabi and tabi wearable with room-shoe feel — they make you realize "tabi can be this free." Toes spread for healthy comfort, plus stylish. There's no reason not to wear them.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Isami Tabi Honpo's history begins with the first-generation Katsujiro Suzuki starting tabi manufacturing in Gyoda City in 1907 (Meiji 40). Subsequently founded as "Suzuki Katsujiro Shoten," through store relocations, new factory construction, and nationwide channel expansion, it has grown into a maker handling wide-ranging clothing — tabi, school uniforms, office wear.
During wartime, the company engaged in military clothing production — and after the war, the business domain expanded according to the era's needs — socks, athletic clothing, school clothing, corporate uniforms. In Showa 53 (1978), the company name was changed to "Isami Corporation Co., Ltd." — and today, school uniforms, office wear, and tabi manufacturing/sales are the business pillars.
Within that, "Isami Tabi Honpo" — as a brand specializing in tabi making, the founding origin — continues Oka-tabi making supported by an in-house factory integrated-production system and skilled artisan techniques. To connect 600 years of tabi culture and Japanese techniques to the next generation, the brand holds up evolving while preserving tradition yet accepting new values.
In recent years, products conscious of fashion and sustainability are also abundant — new standard tabi using washi cloth, mode-tasted patterned tabi and Batik series, faux leather tabi, tabi slippers "Raku," and boot-type Oka-tabi "Itadaki" through collaboration with Miyu Kawabata. Through Gyoda's open factory event "Tabi no Niwa" — factory tours and workshops — the brand widely shares the appeal of tabi culture and the craftsmanship site.

In addition to standard Oka-tabi in white, navy, and black, the brand develops a diverse collection for enjoying tabi as fashion — "Batik" and "Grunge" series using delicate coloring and bold patterns, washi cloth tabi, faux leather tabi, short tabi, gorgeous tabi, festival tabi, tabi slippers "Raku." Cherishing the "ISAMI worldview," the brand proposes new ways to enjoy tabi.
Miyu Kawabata collaboration "Itadaki" — fusion of tradition and sustainable materials
In the boot-type Oka-tabi "Itadaki" — a collaboration with model Miyu Kawabata (with over 1 million total SNS followers) — the Oka-tabi production method evolves into knee-length boots, while adopting Apple Leather, an environmentally conscious material. The brand proposes a new wa-mode style — layered with setta, geta, zori, and sandals — making it a challenging piece fusing traditional techniques and sustainable materials.
