HALISON
Japan-made trad socks from a factory founded in 1925 — from argyle to long hose and mountaineering socks.
HALISON is a long-established socks specialty brand rooted in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture — one of Japan's leading sock-producing regions. With a craftsmanship background continuing from a 1925-founded factory, HALISON launched as a sock-specialty brand in 1966. From British-trad-based argyle socks and long hose essential to gentleman's grooming to outdoor socks earning evaluation as a pioneer of domestic mountaineering socks — all are carefully knit at Japanese factories. The official online store offers a wide lineup spanning business, casual, outdoor, ladies, and healthcare — with explanations only a long-established brand can provide.
Why We Love It
The shadow hero supporting the feet of Japanese businessmen. Especially the fit of "long hose (under-knee length)" is exceptional — the stress-free comfort that doesn't slip even after walking all day is moving! Actually a pioneer of mountaineering socks too, the technical capability trusted even by professional alpinists is truly the essence of "Japanese trad."
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
HALISON's story begins in 1925, when Tokichi Kubota founded the Kubota Knitting Factory in Inan-gun (today's Kakogawa City), Hyogo Prefecture. Forced to temporarily close during wartime industrial consolidation, the factory was revived after the war in 1953 by eldest son Takahiro Kubota. While polishing the techniques of the local sock-making industry, the company deepened its connection with Japanese menswear fashion.
In the 1960s, amid the height of Ivy fashion, the socks specialty brand "HALISON" was born. Influenced by American traditional style brands such as VAN Jacket, the brand developed trad argyle patterns and three-line crew socks. Expanding sales channels to trad-style menswear shops nationwide, it became known as a trad socks brand born in Hyogo / Harima.
From the 1970s onward, the brand expanded into sports markets — golf, tennis, ski, and mountaineering. As a pioneer of domestic mountaineering socks, the brand developed full-scale outdoor socks — with many series still loved as standards today thanks to their solid construction and comfort.
As an OEM maker, HALISON has also produced socks for famous domestic and international brands. Against the backdrop of British-taste traditional design and meticulous quality control unique to Japanese factories, the brand continues making socks combining quality materials such as Supima Cotton, Merino Wool, and American Sea Island Cotton with diverse needle counts. The brand name comes from "HARIMA'S SON." With pride as a successor to the Harima sock-producing region, HALISON will continue proposing socks that "complete the outfit from the feet up."
Trad socks by a socks specialty maker founded in 1925
HALISON's roots go back to a sock factory founded in Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1925. After postwar revival, the socks specialty brand "HALISON" was born in 1966. With history extending across trad-style shops nationwide since the heyday of Ivy fashion, the brand still continues making traditional socks committed to Japanese production.
A trad standard known for argyle and long hose
The brand has long featured the British traditional argyle pattern as a permanent standard — and the authentic argyle socks made with intarsia knitting machines are HALISON's signature. Long hose (long socks) covering up to the knee are also abundant — elegantly styling the gentleman's feet for suits and formal scenes that don't show bare skin, with quality materials and high-gauge knitting.
Functionality cultivated as a pioneer of domestic mountaineering socks
In the 1970s, HALISON entered the sports market — developing mountaineering socks alongside golf, tennis, and ski. Calling itself a pioneer of domestic mountaineering socks, HALISON's outdoor socks excel at the balance of durability, fit, and cushioning — still earning support from many mountaineers and outdoor fans today.
An online store where socks lovers choose "thickness" by needle count
In the official online store's product list, the knitting machine needle count is clearly noted for each item (e.g., "X needles"). From thin high-gauge to thick low-gauge, you can compare knit fineness — i.e., fabric thickness — numerically as you choose. This characteristic unique to HALISON, where you can choose by "thickness" alongside material, pattern, and length, makes pairing socks with leather shoes, sneakers, and boots much easier.
