NAGASAWA Stationery Center
Bring Kobe's colors to your writing.
Based in Kobe, NAGASAWA has long shaped the joy of handwriting through stationery. Founded on May 15, 1882, it operates as Nagasawa Stationery Center Co., Ltd., with its head office in Chuo-ku, Kobe. The flagship store sits inside Junkudo Bookstore Sannomiya, and the brand also runs locations such as Pen Style DEN, Journal Style & Chair Factory, Umeda Chayamachi and Kobe Brick Warehouse. Beyond stationery, its business covers office furniture, IT-related supplies, gifts, printing and seals, online shops and event planning. Original items — Kobe INK Monogatari, fountain pens and kip-leather goods — can be selected in-store or online.
Why We Love It
Start with one bottle from "Kobe INK Monogatari" and pick a color name that catches your eye. Next, place two or three similar shades side by side and make a small swatch page in your notebook — it's an easy way to compare how the ink settles after drying. If you write with fountain pens, try pairing your inks with the GRAPHILO A5 notebook (4mm grid) for daily notes or journaling. For something special, look into store-limited colors and new-release updates.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Founded in 1882, NAGASAWA is headquartered in Edocho, Chuo-ku, Kobe. With its philosophy centered on contributing to culture and the environment through stationery and office supplies, it has supported writers in Kobe for generations. Today it operates multiple stores including the Sannomiya flagship, Pen Style DEN, Journal Style & Chair Factory, Umeda Chayamachi and Kobe Brick Warehouse.
A signature original line is "Kobe INK Monogatari," where place names become fountain-pen ink colors. No. 37 "Minatojima Island Blue" is a water-based dye ink for fountain pens, 50ml, with a package size of about 65×65×52mm, released in October 2016. There are also store-limited releases such as "Kobe Vintage Brick" (50ml, water-based dye ink), handled by the Kobe Brick Warehouse store and released on Dec 1, 2025.
To make ink comparisons even more enjoyable, NAGASAWA also created a GRAPHILO A5 notebook project. As of November 2025, the design supports 88 standard colors. It uses GRAPHILO paper focused on fountain-pen writing, and the layout is a light-gray 4mm grid. The notebook launched on Dec 10, 2025, priced at 1,100 yen (tax included), and is handled by NAGASAWA stores and the official online shop.
Stores also feature workshops and events, and pen-clinic / maintenance information is shared as part of those activities. A "Pen Maintenance" program was held at the Umeda Chayamachi store from Apr 13, 2024 to Apr 6, 2025. For ordering, there are multiple paths: the official online shop, the Rakuten store, Yahoo! Shopping and a Global EC site for overseas customers — so Kobe-born writing culture can reach your desk wherever you are.
Founded in 1882, rooted in Kobe
Established in 1882, NAGASAWA continues its work around Kobe with a clear philosophy: contributing to culture and the environment through stationery and office supplies. Even in a digital age, handwriting stays at the center of its proposals.
Kobe INK Monogatari: place names as colors
"Kobe INK Monogatari" turns the city's place names into ink colors. One example, No. 37 "Minatojima Island Blue," is a 50ml fountain-pen ink with a package size of about 65×65×52mm — an easy way to bring a hint of Kobe into letters and notes.
A flagship store inside a bookstore
The main store is on the 3rd floor of Junkudo Bookstore Sannomiya. You can also explore Pen Style DEN and Journal Style & Chair Factory, making it simple to move between pens, paper and even furniture depending on what you're looking for.
Tools for a long writing life
Original lines include fountain pens and kip-leather accessories alongside inks. Pen-clinic / maintenance guidance is also provided, offering ways to keep writing tools in good shape. Shopping is available in-store, via the official online shop, and through Rakuten and Yahoo! Shopping.
