Brand & Maker Overview

ALPS WINE

From Shiojiri, Nagano. Wines and juices shaped by local grapes and fruit.

ALPS WINE (Alps Co., Ltd.) is a winery based in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture. Founded in 1927, the company produces and sells not only wine, but also juices and brandy. One of its signature lines is “Musee du Vin,” a Japanese wine series made with a strong focus on Nagano-grown grapes. Each grape variety is treated on its own terms—how it is grown, how it is fermented, and how it is aged—then offered across multiple grades within the series. Beyond wine, ALPS also works extensively with fruit juices and juice ingredients. It’s a brand with range, built around the simple pleasure of fruit—bottled in ways that fit everyday moments.

Why We Love It

If we were picking a first bottle, we’d start with the flagship “Musee du Vin.” Try the core series to get the feel, then line up different grades when you want to compare. Choosing by grape variety is part of the fun—Merlot or Black Queen for red, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc for white. On days you want something non-alcoholic, the grape and apple juices are an easy move. Same fruit-forward mood, in a lighter form.

PROFILE About the Company / Workshop

Shiojiri, in Nagano, is known for generous sunshine and large day–night temperature swings around harvest time—conditions that help grapes develop character. It’s a place with real wine context, including areas like Kikyogahara.

ALPS WINE dates back to 1927. Wine is central, but the company also produces juices and brandy. The thread connecting them is simple: bringing fruit-forward flavor to the table in practical, approachable forms.

Grape sourcing is built together with the region. In the 1970s, ALPS formed a shipping association with grape growers in Nagano, supporting stable supply and quality. Work in the vineyard flows straight into wine and juice.

In 2008, the company established the agricultural corporation “Alps Farm,” including efforts to turn abandoned farmland into vineyards. It’s a steady, long-game approach—expanding the vineyard base and widening the range of grapes that can be grown locally.

For wine, the flagship is “Musee du Vin.” The series emphasizes Nagano-grown grapes and adapts growing and winemaking to each variety. From the core series to higher grades, it naturally invites comparison and exploration.

The lineup goes beyond Musee du Vin, with options such as additive-free styles, sparkling, organic wines, and fruit wines—plus juices and juice ingredients. Whatever the occasion, there’s usually a bottle that fits without overthinking it.

Flagship “Musee du Vin,” focused on Nagano-grown grapes

“Musee du Vin” means “museum of wine.” The line is positioned as a flagship series, emphasizing Nagano-grown grapes and thoughtful winemaking from fermentation through aging. It is offered across multiple grades, giving plenty of room to explore.

Working with growers and the in-house “Alps Farm” vineyards

Since the 1970s, ALPS has worked with local growers through a shipping association. In 2008, the company also established “Alps Farm,” including efforts to convert abandoned farmland into vineyards—keeping grape production close to home.

More than wine: juices and juice ingredients

Alongside wine, ALPS is also active in juices and juice ingredients. Fruit-driven options make it easy to pick what fits the day—whether it’s a bottle for dinner or something for a lighter moment.
