Mountain fermentation and wooden tableware: things born from the Shinshu lifestyle.

Nagano is rich in foods born from the wisdom of mountain living, such as Shinshu soba, miso, oyaki (stuffed dumplings), and Nozawana pickles. It is also a land highly active in creating tools from natural materials, such as Kiso lacquerware, wooden furniture, forged blades, and paper. On this page, we will introduce Made in Japan foods supporting Shinshu's fermented goods and local cuisine, alongside wood and lacquer tableware, furniture, and tools.

Miso and Pickles: Fermented Foods Nurtured in the Mountains

Fermented foods and preserved foods born from the wisdom of surviving winter, such as Shinshu miso, Nozawana pickles, and oyaki, continue to support Nagano's dining tables today. We will introduce products you'll want to incorporate into daily cooking, such as miso breweries particular about ingredients and koji, and pickle shops protecting traditional methods.

Kiso Lacquerware and Wooden Vessels: Tableware Utilizing Mountain Wood

Lacquerware and wooden vessels made in the Kiso region hold a rustic yet dignified presence. We will introduce their appeal as tools you can cherish for a long time, focusing on tableware matching well with Shinshu's food, such as soup bowls, plates, bento boxes, and trays.

Furniture and Woodwork: Tools Shaping Your Lifestyle

Across various parts of Nagano, starting with Matsumoto, there are many workshops making wooden furniture and small wooden items.
