TAJIMA GLASS

Tajima Glass started as Tajima Glass Seisakusho, founded by Matsutaro Tajima in 1956. The company was reorganized as Tajima Glass Co., Ltd. in 1957 and built its own factory in Matsue, Edogawa-ku. Since then, it has expanded production of glass tableware, flower vases and cased glass based on Edo Glass techniques and now operates with around 50 employees.

The business covers Edo Glass tableware, Edo Kiriko and cased glass used as materials for cutting and sandblasting. With facilities that allow the company to handle product planning, mold making, forming, cutting and polishing in-house, Tajima Glass supplies original products, commercial glassware for hotels and restaurants, as well as commemorative and novelty items for corporate clients.

Over the years, Tajima Glass has received many awards, including the Tokyo Governor’s Prize at the Tokyo Traditional Crafts Challenge Awards, prizes for the black Edo Kiriko glass and the WINEBLER glass, and top prizes for the Mt. Fuji glass series. The chairman, Fumio Tajima, has been certified as a traditional master craftsman and honored with the Yellow Ribbon Medal. Tajima Glass continues to preserve Edo-era craftsmanship while innovating for the future of Japanese glassware.

Integrated production of Edo Glass, Edo Kiriko and cased glass

Tajima Glass inherits the traditional Edo Glass techniques and manufactures Edo Glass, Edo Kiriko and cased glass at its own factory in Edogawa, Tokyo. The line-up covers Western-style glass tableware, Japanese sake ware, flower vases and colored overlay glass materials for sandblasting and cutting, supporting both professional use and gifts.

Award-winning Mt. Fuji glass series

The Mt. Fuji series, including the Mt. Fuji Sake Cup and Mt. Fuji Glass, realistically represents the shape of Mt. Fuji at the bottom of the glass. The series has received multiple awards, such as the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the National Recommended Souvenir Contest and the Grand Prix / Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency Award at the Souvenir Grand Prix, and has been selected as a gift at the G7 Toyama Environment Ministers’ Meeting.

Craftsmanship that combines tradition and innovation

Using techniques such as mold-blowing, stem making, overlaying, sheet forming, iced-crack glass and Edo Kiriko cutting, Tajima Glass maintains a daily production capacity of around 2,000–2,500 pieces. All Edo Kiriko pieces are finished by hand polishing rather than chemical polishing, which enhances the delicate colors and precise cuts. By offering an integrated process from product planning to manufacturing and finishing, the company can respond flexibly to OEM and custom-made projects.
