Yaeyama Farm
An Ishigaki Island organic farm challenging Japan's only organic pineapple and circular sixth-sector industrialization.
Yaeyama Farm is an organic farm based on Ishigaki Island, Okinawa — delivering agricultural and livestock products and processed goods leveraging the island's bounty: organic JAS certified pineapples, "Painu Buta" pork, Ishigaki beef, green shikuwasa citrus. Under the thinking that "the character for food means making people good," the farm works on circular sixth-sector industrialization — consistently performing production, processing, distribution/sales, and tourism exchange within its own group — proposing sustainable and delicious future food.
Why We Love It
An amazing Ishigaki Island farm making "Japan's only organic JAS certified pineapple." They seriously practice "circular agriculture" — pineapple pulp is fed to pigs, and pig compost grows pineapples. The hamburger of "Painu Buta" (Southern Pig) raised in such an environment has sweet fat and is exceptional! A farm to leave for the future — balancing food safety and deliciousness.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Yaeyama Farm holds up the mission of delivering good "food" for people, region, and the earth — while harmonizing with the natural environment of Okinawa including Ishigaki Island. Under the thinking "a sound mind resides in a healthy body," capturing food as "people made good" — the company has continued product making that contributes to mind-body health building.
On the farm, crops like pineapples, green papaya, and beni-imo are cultivated with methods that minimize pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Especially the organic JAS certified pineapple is grown carefully in fields where red-soil land is improved with ranch compost and organic materials — balancing water retention and drainage. The pulp is reused as pig feed, and the pig manure is fermented back to compost and returned to the fields — circulating. "Circular agriculture" linking agriculture and livestock supports the core of Yaeyama Farm.
In the livestock division, the farm raises pigs and cattle committed to feeding only things humans can eat — pineapple and beni-imo residue, island vegetables. Through feed ingenuity and low-stress environments, Painu Buta with excellent umami-sweetness balance and richly flavored Ishigaki beef are born — their deliciousness delivered nationwide in various forms: fresh meat, hamburger, sausage, retort products.
In the processing division, beyond organic pineapple juice, green shikuwasa juice, and beni-imo paste, original idea products are developed — "spice jam" combining spices and herbs, and the fruit brand "Okinawa F:roots" made in cooperation with Ishigaki Island and Okinawa main island farmers. While leveraging material character, aiming to deliver "memorable flavors" to the daily dining table.
Furthermore, experience content like farm and livestock site, agricultural processing factory, and producer-direct meat shop tours are also prepared — putting effort into initiatives that let people know "the site where food is born." Yaeyama Farm will continue — together with Ishigaki Island's nature — to spread the circle of "making good" connecting to good people, good society, and good global environment, from Okinawa to the world.
Expanding the circle of "making good" with circular sixth-sector industrialization
What Yaeyama Farm holds up is "a sustainable circular future." Beyond just agricultural and livestock production, the company handles processing, distribution/sales, and tourism exchange within its own group — challenging "Sixth-Sector Industry." Livestock manure is fermented into compost, and pulp from pineapples and beni-imo is used as pig feed — practicing circular agriculture linking agriculture and livestock. Aiming for "bringing nothing in from outside the farm, throwing nothing away" — the farm continues building systems walking together with Ishigaki Island's natural environment.
Japan's only organic JAS certified pineapple
What's synonymous with Yaeyama Farm is the organic JAS certified pineapple — said to be the only one in Japan. Taking 5 years for soil improvement, leveraging ranch compost, rice bran, and awamori distillation residue for amino-acid-rich soil making — cultivating without relying on pesticides or chemical fertilizers. By performing pest and animal control by hand as much as possible — growing pineapples that are safe, reassuring, and offer fruit's natural rich sweetness and aroma.
"Painu Buta," Ishigaki beef, and shikuwasa — connecting "food" and health
Yaeyama Farm's livestock products and fruits — "Painu Buta" (raised on organic pineapple pulp and island vegetable feed), Ishigaki beef (leveraging Ishigaki Island's climate and rearing environment), green shikuwasa citrus (grown in the longevity village of Ogimi) — take the theme of "food that makes human health." Furthermore, sublimating Okinawa's materials with original processing techniques into new deliciousness — spice jams combined with spices and herbs, and the seasoning "Meguru" using pipaats (island pepper).
