Why We Love It

The standard Okinawa souvenir — chinsuko — but Nangoku Seika's "crispy-crumbly texture" is exquisite! Precisely because they cherish old-style handwork, they can produce the rustic and gentle flavor. Beyond plain, with abundant flavors like pineapple, coconut, and caramel — there's also the joy of choosing. The "Chinsuko Ichiba" assortment is the strongest ally for distributing souvenirs at workplaces and to friends.

PROFILE About the Company / Workshop

Nangoku Seika is a confectionery maker that has walked with regional people — centered on chinsuko, long loved in Okinawa. As a company, "Nangoku Seika Co., Ltd." was established in Heisei 2 — and a manufacturing system has been built centered on its local Kadena-cho. By the time it reached the 20th anniversary from founding, while being supported by many partners and customers, the company has grown into a presence delivering chinsuko nationwide as an Okinawa specialty.

Representative director Dai Nakama actively engages in new challenges only possible because of his generation — while preserving the tradition and techniques inherited from his predecessor. Leveraging young sensibility and feelings for the local area, the management pillars are safe, reassuring, and trustworthy product making; workplace building where each employee thinks and acts; and contribution to local society.

Held up as the management philosophy is — while preserving ancient Ryukyu's quality materials and food culture, realizing new development and creation responding to era needs. Beyond making products that deliver peace of mind, safety, trust, and emotion to customers, the company also focuses on employment support for people with disabilities and human resource development — aiming to continue being a company walking with the region through confection making.

Representative products — the Chinsuko Ichiba and various assortments — have received many awards at the National Confectionery Expo: Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Award, Minister's Honor Award, gold awards, technical excellence awards. Also, beni-imo chinsuko and medicinal herb chinsuko are evaluated at local specialty product recommendations and product fairs. These records are proof of the journey of challenging new flavors and product compositions while cherishing tradition.

At the factory, factory tour content showing the series flow from chinsuko ingredient introduction to baking and bagging in an easy-to-understand way is also prepared. Designed so children can touch food backgrounds and the importance of work through tours, the experience of tasting freshly baked chinsuko is also popular. Nangoku Seika will continue to convey Okinawa-like deliciousness and the craftsmanship attitude going forward.

An Okinawa-born chinsuko specialty maker inheriting ancient Ryukyu food culture

Nangoku Seika is a maker performing region-rooted confection making centered on the Okinawan traditional confection chinsuko. Since the company establishment in Heisei 2 (1990), while preserving flavors loved across generations, the company has developed products chosen as tourist souvenirs and gifts. From the Kadena-cho factory, the company sends out sweets with Okinawa-like rustic sweetness and gentle texture.

Chinsuko with crispy-crumbly texture cherishing handwork processes

In chinsuko making, many handwork steps remain — mixing dough, rolling it out, mold-cutting, lining on iron plates. By carefully mixing the dough, then rolling it out large, cutting with molds long in use, lining up and baking — crispy-crumbly texture and fragrant flavor are born. At factory tours, children can experience this scene up close — also an appeal.

Abundant Okinawa-like flavors — salt, brown sugar, shikuwasa, beni-imo

Of course plain, plus salt, brown sugar, shikuwasa, goya, pineapple, coconut, beni-imo, coffee, and caramel series — Nangoku Seika's chinsuko has surprisingly diverse flavor lineups. Beyond products matched to use — boxed, bagged, by brand — assortments evaluated at the National Confectionery Expo are also developed, delivering the joy of choosing.
