SASAWASHI is built around a simple wish: living every day in comfort and good health. The designs stay clean and minimal, with an emphasis on how the fabric feels when you wear it or use it. Improvements may continue, but the core stays consistent.

The "how" is part of the charm. Kumazasa fiber is blended into washi during papermaking, creating sheet-style sasawashi paper. That sheet is slit into tape, twisted into yarn, and then woven into SASAWASHI fabric — ready for a wide range of products.

Comfort here is practical: high absorbency and a dry, smooth touch; less fuzz and less lint; and simple machine-wash care. The lineup extends from wear (stoles, tops, socks, warmers) to interiors (slippers, sheets, blankets, curtains, mats), plus bath & kitchen items and health-care essentials.

The brand also runs a flagship shop, "SASAWASHI SHOP," in Jingumae (Omotesando area), Tokyo. It is positioned as a pilot shop where you can see the full lineup in person, alongside the online store.

A unique fabric: washi blended with kumazasa

SASAWASHI is made by blending kumazasa fiber into washi, slitting the paper into long tape, twisting it into yarn, and weaving it into cloth. This paper-to-yarn approach creates long, durable yarn without knots — opening the door to woven and knitted essentials.

Absorbs quickly, stays smooth

Washi is known for excellent absorbency — SASAWASHI states it can absorb about twice as much water as cotton. With little moisture "rebound," the surface stays smooth and less sticky, even when you sweat.

Natural antibacterial and deodorant properties

By blending kumazasa into washi, SASAWASHI aims for natural antibacterial and deodorizing power. It is described as inhibiting bacterial growth and helping prevent unpleasant odors — and the antibacterial properties are said to remain even after washing.

Easy care, everyday-ready comfort

SASAWASHI items can be machine washed in a laundry net. For covers such as sheets and pillowcases, a dryer can be used. The material is also described as providing UV protection without chemicals and offering good insulation — cool in summer and warm in winter.
