Noda Horo

Noda Horo

Japan's only integrated enamel producer — pure white enamelware made in Tochigi since 1934.

Noda Horo Co., Ltd. was founded in 1934 in Tokyo and is the only enamelware manufacturer in Japan that carries out the entire production process — steel pressing, glass powder preparation, coating and firing — at a single domestic factory in Tochigi Prefecture. Enamel is created by fusing glass onto steel: the result is a surface that is anti-bacterial, non-reactive, odor-resistant and easy to clean, yet compatible with direct flame, oven, and refrigerator. The "White Series" — pure white enamel containers in every shape — has become a design classic in Japan, recognized by the Good Design Award and adopted by professional kitchens and stylish homes worldwide.

PROFILE Company & Brand Story

Noda Horo was established in 1934 in Tokyo. From the beginning, the company pursued vertical integration — controlling every stage of enamel production in-house. Today, the Tochigi factory is Japan's only facility where steel pressing, glass powder preparation, enamel coating and kiln firing all happen under one roof. This integration is what allows Noda Horo to maintain a level of quality control that outsourced production cannot replicate.

Enamelware is made by fusing powdered glass onto a steel base at high temperature. The resulting surface is glass — chemically inert, non-reactive with food acids and oils, odor-free and bacteria-resistant. Unlike plastic, it does not absorb smells. Unlike uncoated metal, it does not rust or react with ingredients. It can go from the refrigerator to the stovetop to the oven and back.

The White Series, introduced in the 1980s, became Noda Horo's signature product line and a design landmark in Japan. Pure white enamel in rectangular, round, and square forms — containers sized for every kitchen need, from individual portions to large batch cooking. The line has received Japan's Good Design Award and the Good Design Long Life Award.

Noda Horo's "Nukazuke Bijin" (rice-bran pickling container) is a specialized product that has cultivated a devoted following among Japanese households interested in fermentation. The enamel surface is ideal for fermented foods: no odor transfer, no metallic reaction, and easy to clean between uses. The container is also used for making kimchi, yogurt and other fermented preparations.

The brand's Amukettle and Potle lines extend enamel's properties into kettle and pot form. The enamel surface distributes heat evenly, and the clean aesthetics make Noda Horo products as suitable for serving as for cooking. The brand ships internationally and has accumulated a following among buyers interested in functional, minimal Japanese kitchen design.

Japan's only integrated enamel production — Tochigi factory

Noda Horo is Japan's only enamelware producer that handles the full production process — steel forming, glass powder preparation, enamel coating and kiln firing — at a single factory in Tochigi Prefecture. This complete vertical integration ensures consistent quality control impossible with outsourced components.

Excellent preservation — glass surface, anti-bacterial, odor-free

Enamel's glass surface is chemically inert: no reaction with food acids or oils, no odor absorption, no bacteria accumulation. Noda Horo containers preserve ingredient flavor more cleanly than plastic or uncoated metal. The White Series received Japan's Good Design Award and Good Design Long Life Award.

Direct fire, oven and refrigerator compatible

Noda Horo enamelware is compatible with direct flame (gas stovetop), oven, and refrigerator — a single vessel that handles every stage of cooking and storage. The steel base conducts heat efficiently and evenly. Not suitable for IH induction without a compatible base, but suitable for all conventional heat sources.
