Why We Love It

Yumeo is the kind of egg that changes the mood of a bowl of rice — start with just a little soy sauce and let the yolk's richness lead. For everyday cooking, Yumesodachi feels crisp and versatile; for a treat, Yumeo brings full-bodied depth. Having both in the same shop makes it easy to match the egg to the moment.

PROFILE About the Company / Workshop

Fujihashi Shoten traces its roots back to 1915, beginning with the production and sale of animal feed. Built on that foundation, the group expanded into chicks, poultry farming, and eggs — developing an integrated perspective on what it takes to raise healthy hens and produce distinctive eggs.

In 2009, the group opened an egg-specialty restaurant "Tamagoya" near Himeji Castle to showcase the appeal of eggs through straightforward dishes such as tamago-kake-gohan. Growing demand from outside the area naturally led to a mail-order path — bringing those eggs to customers nationwide.

Tamagoya Tsushin was born as that official channel. Its flagship, "Yumeo," was co-developed with a feed manufacturer in 2003, with careful attention to feed and the living environment. Regular health checks are part of the process, supporting a consistent, deeply flavorful egg.

Yumeo is best known for its results at the Tamago Kake Gohan Festival — three consecutive wins and Hall of Fame recognition. When poured over freshly cooked rice, the yolk's color and density make the experience instantly memorable. This is an egg that rewards simplicity.

The other pillar, "Yumesodachi," uses a custom feed blend featuring fish meal, yomogi, and wood vinegar liquid, and is raised in a coop where Mozart is played. It balances richness with a clean finish, performing well not only raw but also in cooked dishes like omelets, rolled omelets, and oyakodon.

Beyond eggs, the shop offers "Tamakake Shoyu" (a soy sauce designed for egg over rice), rice cultivated with compost from the farm (Yume-Ikuchi), and supporting items such as processed foods and oils. With gifts and subscription deliveries available, the brand fits both special moments and the everyday pantry.

Three consecutive wins and "Hall of Fame" recognition: Yumeo

"Yumeo" is positioned as a super-premium egg, known for winning the Tamago Kake Gohan Festival in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions and being recognized as a Hall of Fame egg. Its deep, almost crimson yolk and bold richness shine brightest in the simplest dish — hot rice and egg.

Yumesodachi: custom feed and a carefully tuned environment

"Yumesodachi" is raised on a custom blend that includes ingredients such as fish meal, yomogi (Japanese mugwort), and wood vinegar liquid. The hens are also kept in an environment where Mozart is played in the coop — an uncommon but deliberate part of the brand's approach. The result is rich yet clean, made for everyday cooking.

A circular approach: eggs, compost, and rice

Fujihashi Shoten leverages chicken-manure compost from egg production for rice cultivation, aiming for reduced pesticide and reduced chemical-fertilizer practices. That circular mindset extends the brand beyond eggs into the staples that frame them — rice and seasonings included.
