Founded 100 years ago. Supporting "kimono life" all over Japan.|KIMONO YAMATO
"Kimono seems hard to handle." "The threshold feels high."
Kimono Yamato overturns that image.
Materials and designs you can wear as casually as everyday clothes add color to daily life.
More freedom with kimono
Founded in 1917 (Taisho 6), "KIMONO YAMATO" is one of Japan's largest kimono specialty stores, with over 100 stores nationwide. Alongside traditional kimonos such as furisode and homongi, they continue to propose products that make kimono feel familiar — "washable kimonos" tailored to modern life and stylish yukata. They also offer extensive after-sales services, including dressing lessons and cleaning, making this a brand beginners can rely on with peace of mind.
Why "KIMONO YAMATO" Is Chosen | 3 Reasons
Washable "Yamato Karen"
As the slogan "don't just call it a washable kimono" suggests, the quality is a clear step above plain polyester kimono. With a supple, silk-like texture that resists static, it can still go in your home washing machine. Wearable as everyday clothing without worrying about stains.
"OUTDOOR KIMONO" collaboration
A collaboration with Japanese outdoor maker "Snow Peak." Under the concepts of "wearable without an obi" and "durable enough for outdoor use," they propose a new form of kimono that fastens with buttons and buckles. Gaining attention worldwide.
The peace of mind of a nationwide network
Because stores reach across the country, after-purchase support — dressing consultations, cleaning, alterations — is fully in place. The peace of mind of receiving the same service even if you move is a strength only a major specialty store can offer.
Editor's Note
What got me interested in kimono was Kimono Yamato's "Yamato Karen." Made of polyester and machine-washable at home, I have no fear of grabbing coffee at a café or going out on a rainy day. Yet it looks elegant, like silk. I also love the "OUTDOOR KIMONO" collab with Snow Peak. Warm when worn at camp, resistant to sparks from a bonfire — really practical. There's no brand kinder than this for beginners.
Wearing Tradition and Innovation | 5 Editor's Picks
From a revolutionary kimono washable at home, to a collab kimono active in outdoor scenes, to a furisode for a lifetime memory. A lineup that expands the fun of kimono.
Washable Kimono "Yamato Karen"
No worries on rainy days or at meals. A high-performance kimono you can put in the washing machine.
A series using Kimono Yamato's original high-performance polyester. Wrinkle-resistant, fast-drying and treated against static. Modern colors and patterns — ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy kimono as everyday clothing.
Lessons, lunch, travel, going out on rainy days.
OUTDOOR KIMONO (Snow Peak Collab)
In the city or at camp. A free-flowing kimono that needs no obi.
A kimono jointly developed with Snow Peak for outdoor scenes. Using fabric with excellent breathability and water-repellency, it fastens with buttons and buckles instead of an obi. A coat- or gown-style way of wearing is also popular.
Camping, festivals, street wear, relaxing wear.
Furisode (Coming-of-Age Ceremony)
A beautiful 20-year-old. From classic patterns to today's trends.
A gorgeous furisode to mark the start of adulthood. Kimono Yamato's lineup is wide — from orthodox classic patterns to unique retro-modern and simple solid colors. Beyond purchase, rental plans and "Mama-furi" (bring-your-own) plans are also available.
Coming-of-age ceremony, wedding attendance, graduation.
Yukata (Summer Kimono)
A summer privilege. Trend designs that change every year.
Essential for summer festivals and fireworks. Kimono Yamato releases new designs each year that pick up current trends — easy "Quick Yukata" anyone can put on, collaboration yukata with apparel brands and more.
Summer festivals, fireworks displays, summer dates, evening strolls.
Kurume Kasuri (Cotton Kimono)
Settles to your skin the more you wear it. An everyday woven fabric born in Fukuoka.
Making in cooperation with production regions across Japan is also a feature of Yamato. "Kurume Kasuri," a traditional craft of Fukuoka Prefecture, is a sturdy yet soft cotton kimono. Wearable casually like denim, and a pleasure to see age over time.
Everyday wear, strolling, casual dinner.
Summary: The first step into kimono.
A charm of "KIMONO YAMATO" is that, with stores in shopping centers all over the country, you can stop by casually.
