Masuda Kiribakoten began in 1929 in Fukuoka City as "Masuda Suekichi Kiribakoten." The base later moved to Koga, and the company was established as Masuda Kiribakoten Co., Ltd. in 1966. Today, it continues manufacturing and selling kiribako from its workshop in Koga, Fukuoka.
As a specialist, the company builds boxes with selectable structures — corner-frame and two-side-frame lids, inro-style fittings, slip-over lids, drop-in lids, sliding lids, drawers, and stacking forms. The aim is to match the structure to the content and the handling, so the box feels natural in use.
In 2013, the company began working with designers and stepped into design-oriented product development. The "kirihaco project" brought everyday pieces such as rice bins and toy series, and in 2017 a kirihaco rice bin was selected for JIDA DESIGN MUSEUM SELECTION.
