The history of iwaki begins in 1883, when Japan's first private glass factory was established in Shizuoka Prefecture. Through decades of glass manufacturing experience, the company developed expertise in borosilicate glass — a material that resists thermal shock, making it safe to move directly from freezer to microwave to oven without cracking or shattering.

In 1988, iwaki launched the "Pack & Range" series, a product that changed how Japanese households thought about food storage and reheating. A single glass container with a plastic lid could store leftovers in the refrigerator, go into the microwave (lid removed), then come directly to the table as a serving dish. One vessel replaced three.

The Pack & Range concept has remained fundamentally unchanged for over three decades — a signal that it got the essentials right from the start. The borosilicate glass body does not absorb odors or stains, does not react chemically with food, and can be sterilized in boiling water. The glass is also transparent, so contents are visible at a glance.

Beyond Pack & Range, iwaki produces a broad range of kitchen glassware: coffee drip servers, measuring cups, oil dispensers, mixing bowls and storage solutions. Many have received the Good Design Award in Japan for combining clear functional logic with a clean aesthetic that fits both modern and traditional kitchen environments.

The Shizuoka factory and AGC Techno Glass's accumulated glass engineering expertise underpin a manufacturing standard that is difficult to replicate overseas. iwaki products are sold throughout Japan and internationally, used by professional kitchens and home cooks who value material honesty and durability over disposable convenience.
