CURLY&Co.
A genderless factory brand created by a cut-and-sew specialist in Sanuki, Kagawa.
CURLY&Co. is a Japan-made apparel brand born from Kawakita Hōsei, a sewing factory that started out making gloves in 1963 in Sanuki, Kagawa. Building on more than half a century of accumulated know-how, the brand focuses on cut-and-sewn garments made from highly elastic knit fabrics. From T-shirts and sweats to shirt-jackets and pants, every piece is designed to balance clean, authentic styling with exceptional everyday comfort that comes from being made directly at the factory.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Kawakita Hōsei, the company that created CURLY&Co., started out in 1963 in Sanuki, Kagawa as a factory specializing in glove sewing. As the company honed the fine, precise stitching required for gloves, it gradually expanded into producing T-shirts, underwear, and other cut-and-sewn items, delivering JAPAN MADE garments to customers in Japan and overseas.
During the heyday of domestic production, the factory was shipping such large volumes that it chartered trucks every week. Along the way, it continually refined its own sewing machines and production lines to pursue higher quality. Even as many companies shifted to lower-cost overseas production, Kawakita Hōsei remained committed to domestic manufacturing.
In search of an independent approach to manufacturing that would not be swayed by the fluctuations of client work, the company launched its in-house brand CURLY&Co. in 2009. By handling everything from fabric planning and pattern design to sewing specifications within the factory, the brand can translate subtle design nuances directly into the finished garments.
Today, CURLY&Co. operates from its studio & factory in Sanuki, the head store “TheWeft” in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, and the factory-adjacent store “Kawakita Shōten.” Through pop-up events in department stores and select shops, as well as editorial content and events at TheWeft, the brand shares its stories of craftsmanship while offering clothing that gently updates everyday style.
From glove factory to meticulous cut-and-sew specialists
Kawakita Hōsei, the company behind CURLY&Co., began in 1963 as a sewing factory in one of Japan’s major glove-producing regions. The fine, precise stitching techniques cultivated through glove making were later applied to T-shirts and other cut-and-sewn items, allowing the factory to expand into apparel while maintaining a consistently high level of quality.
All items made from highly elastic knit fabrics
The entire collection is built around cut-and-sewn materials with excellent stretch, including T-shirts, sweats, shirt-jackets, and pants. By handling everything in-house—from the development of original fabrics to pattern-making and testing of sewing specifications—the brand pursues a harmony between beautiful silhouettes and stress-free comfort.
Authentic, clean designs that transcend age and gender
Rooted in an “authentic and clean” worldview, CURLY&Co. offers clothing that can be naturally integrated into a wide range of lifestyles, regardless of age or gender. Subtle details and the nuanced texture of the fabrics create everyday garments you will want to keep wearing for years to come.
Integrated production and the head store “TheWeft”
At the studio and factory in Sanuki, Kagawa, fabric development and sewing are carried out under one roof, creating an integrated production environment. Through the head store “TheWeft” in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, and the factory-adjacent “Kawakita Shōten” store, the brand communicates its manufacturing background and craftsmanship directly to customers.
