PROFILE About the Company / Workshop

Daruma no Furusato Daimonya's history goes back about 100 years. Takasaki daruma — born in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture — spread as a lucky charm supporting sericulture farmers — receiving people's wishes like "abundant harvest," "business prosperity," and "family safety." Within that — Daimonya — as a family business involved in daruma making for generations — is a workshop that has polished its making technique while walking with the region.

The face design of Takasaki daruma — "eyebrows are crane, nose-to-mustache is turtle" — is a traditional Japanese motif representing longevity and good fortune. At Daimonya — the 4th-generation Junichi Nakata handles all this important face part by hand-drawing. While cherishing the wishes and background embedded in each one — committed to expression balance, line thickness, and margin taking — sending out daruma with "beautiful faces" to the world.

Inside the store — colored not only by traditional red Fukudaruma — but also by colorful daruma in white, black, gold, and pastel colors; design daruma with cherry blossom patterns, ichimatsu patterns, and zodiac motifs; and logo daruma bearing corporate logos and sports team marks — a diverse lineup. Limited designs appearing by season, and region/corporate collaboration daruma — are also popular — product development balancing tradition and playfulness is the appeal unique to Daimonya.

Daruma painting experience and handprint daruma experience — also well-received by tourists, school trip students, and family layers. Time to make one-of-a-kind daruma — drawing your own face or pattern on a pure white daruma, or leaving small children's handprints — becomes a special travel memory. To experience participants — passing prayed postcards — also cherishing daruma's meaning as a lucky charm of "embedding wishes" and "conveying gratitude."

Recently — also accelerating efforts to spread Takasaki daruma to the world — through online shops and overseas dealers. Also focusing on product development collaborating with Gunma's local industries — like daruma and local sake gift sets — with the mission of "connecting traditional crafts to the next generation" — continuing new challenges daily.
