"Iroya Farm" in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture is an Organic JAS certified farm growing vegetables and rice using only homemade bokashi fertilizer and organic fertilizers — without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. The farm delivers a diverse range of products nationwide through its online shop and direct outlets, including jinenjo (wild yam), sweet potatoes, organic peanuts, red onions, the specially cultivated "Aichi no Kaori" milk-vetch rice, and the specially cultivated "Koharu Mochi" glutinous rice. Through food and farming, the farm proposes a happy, delicious, and environmentally friendly way of living.
Why We Love It
An Organic JAS certified farm in Nisshin City, growing vegetables without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. What's amazing here is that even the famously difficult-to-cultivate jinenjo (wild yam) is grown organically! The stickiness and aroma are exceptional. Rice fed with milk vetch as fertilizer, fluffy sweet potatoes — crops where attention starts from soil-making are life-force itself. Strongly recommended for anyone who refuses to compromise on both "food safety" and "deliciousness."
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Iroya Farm started from the wish of representative Mr. and Mrs. Iwamoto to "grow safe and delicious food with our own hands." After studying at Nisshin Agri-School and becoming new farmers, they worked on organic cultivation of jinenjo and vegetables in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture.
In the fields, the farm doesn't use pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers — building soil mainly with organic fertilizer, green manure, and bokashi fertilizer. Borrowing the power of creatures such as ladybugs, frogs, and lizards, the farm values creating diverse fields and pursues cultivation methods that don't burden the environment.
Cultivated crops include jinenjo, sweet potatoes, organic peanuts, "Aichi no Kaori" milk-vetch rice, the specially cultivated glutinous rice "Koharu Mochi," and seasonal open-field vegetables. Beyond the online shop and direct outlets, the farm now reaches many dining tables through co-ops, direct-from-producer sites, and as a hometown tax (furusato nozei) return gift.
"Through food and farming, we want to propose a happy life, a delicious life, and a lifestyle gentle to the environment." Under this vision, the farm aims for future-oriented agriculture looking 10 and 20 years ahead — through resolving abandoned farmland, creating local employment, and providing places for farming experiences.
Organic JAS certified circular and environmentally conscious farming
The farm is Organic JAS certified for vegetable cultivation. Without using pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers, the farm practices circular agriculture using only organic inputs such as green manure, carefully selected chicken manure, and homemade bokashi fertilizer.
Signature products: wild yam, milk-vetch rice, and organic vegetables
The farm cultivates more than 30 varieties annually — starting with jinenjo (wild yam), the specially cultivated "Aichi no Kaori" milk-vetch rice (using milk vetch as fertilizer), specially cultivated glutinous rice "Koharu Mochi," organic sweet potatoes, peanuts, and onions.
Diverse sales channels: direct stores, co-ops, and direct-from-producer sites
In addition to its own online shop, the farm sells through the Nisshin Green Center, co-op stores, and direct-from-producer EC platforms (Tabechoku, Poke-m). It also connects with local dining tables through the local direct outlet "Iroya Shop" and event participation.
Hands-on farm experiences: harvest events and rice paddy days
The farm holds participatory experience events such as organic peanut harvesting, rice paddy days, and sweet potato digging — where you can learn while touching the soil. From children to adults, the initiative continues to convey "the importance of food" through real contact with the field.
