Kimura Soap
Sparkling living and spirits. Kettle-boiled soap and "just-right" cleansers.
Founded in 1924 (Taisho 13), Kimura Soap in Yao City, Osaka, is one of the few soap makers whose artisans still boil up soap base in a kettle. Based on pure soap components carefully prepared in its own kettles, it develops cleansers that pursue a balance of "cleaning power," "ingredient reassurance" and "usability." Through brands such as SOMALI, 12/JU-NI, C SERIES, asuno and Sokokashiko, it delivers tools that make daily living and spirits sparkle, for everyone from children to the elderly.
Why We Love It
Founded in 1924, a rare maker whose artisans still make soap by "kettle-boiling." Yet the products are astonishingly modern! The "C SERIES," which solves niche troubles like "I wanted to clean exactly there!" — toilet nozzles, ice makers and the like — is a savior of cleaning. The balance of ingredient gentleness and cleaning power is exquisite, and the packaging is stylish enough to leave out on display!
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Kimura Soap is a soap maker born in Osaka in 1924 (Taisho 13). It started with household laundry soap at its founding, and later honed its skills making commercial detergents for bathhouses, laundries and the like. Today it still delivers products based on pure soap components boiled in its own kettles nationwide from its town factory in Yao City, Osaka.
True to the words "Sparkling living and spirits," what the company values is not only that dirt comes off, but that the user's spirits become clear and settled. Rather than relying on overly strong cleaning power or excessive fragrance, it designs products by the criterion of whether they are "just right for daily life," including the burden on skin and the environment, bottle size and ease of refilling.
Its original brands include a diverse lineup: "SOMALI," house and body care that draws on the comfort of natural materials and essential oils; "12/JU-NI," hair care committed to an honest formula; "C SERIES," cleansers that answer niche troubles; "asuno," a fragrance-free powder laundry detergent that needs no softener; and "Sokokashiko," an oxygen-based bleach usable all over the house. Kitchen, bathroom, laundry, washbasin… it aims to be a presence that quietly supports living in every scene of daily life.
Even now as a 100-year company, Kimura Soap keeps taking on new challenges — packaging ingenuity that reduces plastic use, building systems to collect used containers, and creating an "open factory" through community events and factory tours. Stepping beyond "a company that makes soap and detergent," it continues to search for "soap of the future" that makes the next generation's life even a little better.
A commitment to pure soap, boiled up in our own kettles
Using the "kettle-boiling" method continued since its founding, it takes time to boil up soap base in the kettles of its own factory. It is an inefficient, labor-intensive way that requires an artisan's intuition to judge temperature and stirring, but it is upheld as an important process that determines the lather and the pleasantness of the finish after washing.
Exploring the "just-right" balance of cleaning power, ingredients and usability
Rather than "as long as it cleans" or "as long as it's gentle," it aims for a "just-right cleanser" that includes cleaning performance, gentleness on skin and the environment, and a scent and texture you'll want to use every day. Without insisting on pure soap alone, it uses synthetic surfactants where appropriate, seeking to combine function close to daily life with reassurance.
Making cleansers that answer niche troubles
It offers many cleansers aimed at places that "bother you, but you don't know how to clean" — washing-machine tubs, bath floors, automatic ice makers, drainpipes, toilet nozzles and more. Seeing the niche areas big makers find hard to touch as exactly where a small town factory's planning and technical strengths shine, it continues making products that "scratch the itch" of daily life.
As "residents of the future," toward the environment and community
It continues efforts connected to the environment and the local community — the "Residents of the Future Project," which collects and recycles refill pouches, and cleanup activities around the factory. As a B Corp–certified company, it looks toward the coming 100 years with the goal of leaving a positive impact on society and the global environment through its business.
