Why We Love It

"Is charcoal-grilled jidori chicken really this juicy!?" — common sense is overturned. "Tsumajidori" — raised longer in a stress-free environment than general jidori — overflows with umami the more you chew. The fragrance hand-grilled over charcoal by artisans is the strongest pairing with beer. Being able to enjoy this taste at home — to a level that makes you envy Miyazaki residents.

PROFILE About the Company / Workshop

The history of O.N FOODS began with Ozaki Meat Shop, which opened in Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture, in 1925 as a local butcher shop. Building on its experience in meat processing and retail, the company was incorporated as O.N FOODS Co., Ltd. in 2001 and launched its own branded chicken "Tsumajidori," registering the trademark in 2005.

Tsumajidori is a branded chicken that has obtained JAS certification for free-range chicken. JAS (the Japanese Agricultural Standard) defines free-range chicken based on conditions such as having at least 50% native Japanese breed bloodlines, traceable origin, and minimum rearing periods and density. At the Tsumajidori farm, in addition to meeting these criteria, the company maintains a stocking density of ten birds or fewer per square meter and raises the birds for 90–120 days, longer than the general standard of 75 days, to achieve firm meat and concentrated flavor.

The online shop "Miyazaki Tsumajidori Farm" offers a wide range of products made from this Tsumajidori chicken. Signature items include charcoal-grilled chicken prepared one piece at a time by skilled artisans, as well as chicken tataki, chicken nanban, hot pot and shabu-shabu sets, tsukune meatballs, marinated meats, rice topping mixes, and chicken stock. The lineup is designed to suit both everyday meals and special occasions.

Gift products are another key focus. The shop provides catalog-style gifts where recipients can choose from Tsumajidori items, as well as various gift sets combining charcoal-grilled chicken, tataki, and other specialties. These are presented as suitable for seasonal greetings, celebrations, return gifts, and other occasions such as weddings, births, housewarming parties, long-life celebrations, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and Respect-for-the-Aged Day.

At the same time, O.N FOODS has been working to strengthen its production and hygiene system by operating a HACCP-compliant plant and introducing solar power at its facilities. Through content such as "What is Tsumajidori?" and "Seven reasons why Tsumajidori is chosen" on its websites, the company communicates its approach to rearing, processing, and quality control. Under the message "There is a reason why it tastes so good," the brand aims to deliver the joy of food through Tsumajidori while contributing to the local community and society.

JAS-certified branded free-range chicken with over one million meals sold annually

"Tsumajidori" is a branded chicken that has obtained JAS certification for free-range chicken and is raised in Saito City, Miyazaki Prefecture. According to the brand introduction, it now boasts annual sales of around one million servings. Meeting the JAS standards for breed, rearing conditions, and traceability, it is known for its firm texture and rich flavor.

Stress-free rearing and handcrafted charcoal grilling

At the company's own farm, chickens are raised in a clean environment with a stocking density of ten birds or fewer per square meter to minimize stress. While JAS requires at least 75 days of rearing for free-range chicken, Tsumajidori is raised for 90 to 120 days, which helps develop a firmer texture and deeper flavor. In processing, Tsumajidori products are handmade: meat cutting, seasoning, charcoal grilling, and packing are all done by hand. In particular, the charcoal-grilled items are cooked one by one over charcoal by skilled artisans who know exactly how to control the heat.

Long history since 1925 and a HACCP-certified production system

O.N FOODS traces its roots back to 1925, when the predecessor Ozaki Meat Shop opened as a local butcher shop. The company was incorporated in 2001, registered the "Tsumajidori" trademark in 2005, and obtained JAS certification for free-range chicken in 2007. It later moved its head office to its current address, built a new head office and plant, and introduced HACCP-based hygiene management as well as solar power facilities. This combination of long-standing know-how in meat processing and modern production and hygiene control underpins the safety and reliability of Tsumajidori products.
