ROTOTO
A small lift for everyday feet. Socks made as "consumables to love for a lifetime."
ROTOTO is a Made-in-Japan sock brand built around comfort, quality, and the idea of creating "consumables that can be loved for a lifetime." The socks are born in Nara Prefecture's major sock-producing area — centered on Koryocho and spanning Yamatotakada, Kashiba, and Gose. From selecting yarns to choosing the right knitting machine and refining each detail with local craftsmen, ROTOTO shapes everyday staples with care and a quiet sense of excitement.
PROFILE Company & Brand Story
When your outfit feels right, your posture changes. ROTOTO brings that same idea to the part of the wardrobe you touch every day: your socks. Each day may pass quietly, yet every day is irreplaceable. That is why ROTOTO focuses on the feel of daily essentials and the subtle euphoria of quality.
The brand is rooted in Nara's major sock-making area. Centered on Koryocho and extending to Yamatotakada, Kashiba, and Gose, the region has a deep textile background. Industrial sock production was introduced in 1910, and the local culture still reflects that history in the words and practices of the craft.
ROTOTO's process is guided by materials and conversation. It begins with yarn selection for the desired comfort. If needed, new blended materials are developed together with craftsmen. Then the appropriate machine is chosen — rare specialty machines, old non-computerized knitters, or the latest equipment — while the final shape is refined through close communication at the factory.
The package's round band is a small symbol of the brand's mindset. Inspired by fabric waste from toe stitching, it helps you spot sizes at a glance and can replace plastic hangers for display. The same spirit extends to local reuse efforts: sending fabric waste to welfare institutions for finger knitting, and remaking the bands into useful items in Nara.
ROTOTO is mainly available through its online store, and it also operates "ROTOTO STORE" in Nishihara, Shibuya, Tokyo. It is a place to experience the brand's mood in person and to choose everyday staples in a way that feels natural — right on the line between function and style.
"A Small, Good Thing" for everyday life
ROTOTO's statement is simple: finding small happiness in daily life can make each day feel richer. With that in mind, the brand keeps making socks meant to be loved for a long time — carefully, one pair at a time.
Made in Nara, Japan's leading sock-producing region
ROTOTO's production is rooted in the northwestern part of Nara Prefecture, centered on Koryocho. The region is known for a long weaving history, and industrial sock production began there in 1910. Even today, locals still call sock knitting "sock weaving."
Yarns, machines, and craftsmanship — shaped through dialogue
Sock making often starts with selecting the right yarns for the intended feel. Sometimes new blended materials are developed with craftsmen. Then a suitable machine is chosen — ranging from rare specialty knitters to old non-computerized machines and the latest equipment — while details are refined through hands-on discussion at the factory.
The round band package: practical, thoughtful, and re-usable
That round band on the package is inspired by fabric waste generated during toe stitching. Colors differ by size (S/M/L), and the band can be used for display without plastic hooks. In the production area, such fabric waste has been shared with welfare institutions as finger-knitting material, and the bands are also reused for everyday items like rugs and bench cushions.
