Imai Daruma Ten NAYA
A Takasaki daruma specialty workshop — where 200+ years of tradition meets modern sensibility.
"Imai Daruma Ten NAYA" — founded in 1930 in Toyooka-machi, Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture — is a workshop that continues to challenge new daruma making for modern living and the world market — while inheriting the techniques of traditional Takasaki daruma in the land of Japan's number-one daruma production. Of course offering lucky charms like Fukuiri daruma, pass-exam, and victory daruma — also proposing "the only-one daruma" that accompanies wishes and scenes — like bridal, longevity celebrations, lucky colors, designer series, and even painting experiences and original customization.
Why We Love It
A revolutionary workshop that created the new value of "daruma as interior." The Good Design Award-winning "Designers Daruma" is already an art work! Keeping the strength as a traditional lucky charm as-is — adding stylishness that fits modern lifestyles. For celebrations or gifts to overseas friends — nothing more thoughtful exists.
PROFILE About the Company / Workshop
Imai Daruma Ten NAYA's walk began in 1930 in Toyooka-machi, Takasaki City. In Japan's number-one daruma production land — while previous generations protected the value of Takasaki daruma as a "lucky charm entrusted with wishes" — repeating ingenuity matched to the times. Material selection considering the environment — like base making from recycled paper and white groundwork with gofun — is one such example.
From the high-growth period to the present — together with domestic demand changes and lifestyle diversification — the environment surrounding daruma has also changed. The third generation Hirohisa Imai — in addition to traditional Takasaki daruma — successively developing new series resonating with modern sensibility — like "Designers Daruma" through collaborations with designers, zodiac and cherry-blossom designs, and collaborations with Japan national sports teams.

Incorporating English promotional videos and online live-sales — also advancing initiatives that transmit the value as "Japanese traditional craft" in an easy-to-understand way.
With the message "stumbling is not failure but a chance for the next step" in the heart — Imai Daruma Ten NAYA will continue daruma making accompanying lives of people around the world — while connecting the spirit and technology of Takasaki daruma to the future.
Founded in 1930 — inheriting the 200+ year lineage of Takasaki daruma
The origin of Takasaki daruma is said to go back over two hundred years. Imai Daruma Ten NAYA — cherishing those traditional techniques and the spirit of "seven falls, eight rises" — has continued making daruma by hand with family and craftsmen since founding in 1930. Combining environmentally-friendly base making using recycled paper and gofun — and hand-painted faces with different expressions one by one — protecting old-style processes while finishing with quality and design fitting the modern age.
