There are two types of sparklers: "Nagate Botan" in Kanto style where gunpowder is wrapped in Japanese paper, and "Subote Botan" in Kansai style where gunpowder is attached to the tip of straw. Saltpeter, sulfur, and pine soot (soot from burning pine roots) which are the raw materials of gunpowder. In particular, they collect high-quality pine soot from Miyazaki Prefecture themselves and age it for use.
