Daiwa

Daiwa

Japanese precision fishing tackle — SVF carbon, MAGSEALED bearings, from Tokyo since 1958.

Daiwa is a fishing tackle brand by GLOBERIDE Inc., founded in 1958 in Higashi Kurume, Tokyo. The brand is recognized internationally for applying aerospace-grade engineering to fishing equipment: SVF (Super Volume Fiber) carbon technology produces rod blanks with higher fiber density and less resin, resulting in rods that are lighter, more sensitive and more powerful than conventional carbon rods. MAGSEALED bearing protection — a magnetic oil seal — prevents water and salt from penetrating reel internals without creating friction, extending bearing life in harsh marine environments. Daiwa products are used by competitive anglers and enthusiasts across freshwater, saltwater and offshore fishing worldwide.

PROFILE Company & Brand Story

Daiwa was founded in 1958 in Higashi Kurume, Tokyo, and has grown into one of Japan's two globally recognized fishing tackle brands. The company's headquarters and key R&D operations remain in Japan, where its engineering teams have developed materials and mechanisms that have set technical standards for the global fishing tackle industry.

The SVF (Super Volume Fiber) carbon technology was developed by Daiwa's materials engineering team working at the boundary between sporting equipment and aerospace composites. By increasing the density of carbon fibers within the matrix while reducing the proportion of resin, SVF creates a blank with higher strength-to-weight ratio and superior vibration transmission. A rod blank built with SVF carbon transmits subtle bites more clearly than conventional carbon material.

MAGSEALED is Daiwa's proprietary waterproofing technology for reel bearings. A magnetic oil forms a physical seal around bearing internals without adding mechanical friction — so the reel continues to spin smoothly while maintaining full protection against water, salt and fine particles. In saltwater environments, where conventional bearing grease washes out and corrodes quickly, MAGSEALED dramatically extends bearing service life.

Beyond technical specifications, Daiwa has invested in design: the D-VEC fashion brand, developed alongside fishing apparel, applies the same material engineering to performance clothing. This crossover between fishing equipment and fashion reflects the brand's awareness that fishing gear is also personal gear — worn and carried, not just used.

Daiwa's flagship reels — EXIST and ZILLION — are built to competition-level specifications, but the brand also produces accessible entry-level gear through lines like TATULA and STRADIC. The EXIST reel, in particular, is regularly cited by specialist fishing media as the technical benchmark for spinning reel design.

SVF carbon — aerospace-level fiber density for rod blanks

SVF (Super Volume Fiber) carbon increases fiber density while reducing resin content, producing rod blanks that are lighter, more sensitive and more powerful than conventional carbon. Originally developed at the boundary of aerospace composite engineering, SVF is now a standard technology across Daiwa's premium rod lines.

MAGSEALED — magnetic oil bearing protection

MAGSEALED uses a magnetic oil to form a contactless seal around reel bearing internals. Water, salt and particles are physically blocked without any added friction — so reel performance is preserved and bearing life is extended even in the harshest saltwater environments.

D-VEC — fishing brand with design ambition

Daiwa's D-VEC fashion line applies the brand's performance material expertise to clothing and accessories. This crossover reflects Daiwa's understanding that fishing gear is also personal gear — worn throughout the day, not just held. The D-VEC collaboration has produced pieces shown at design events alongside conventional outdoor brands.
