Factelier
Factory-direct Japanese clothing — 100% Made in Japan, with the factory name on every tag.
Factelier is a Japanese fashion brand founded in 2012 in Kumamoto with the mission of creating world-class brands directly from Japan's factories. By working directly with top-tier domestic factories and cutting out intermediaries, Factelier delivers high-quality Made in Japan clothing, bags and accessories at fair prices — while ensuring factories receive proper compensation. Every product carries the factory's name on its tag, making the craftspeople visible and the story behind each piece easy to tell.
PROFILE Company & Brand Story
Factelier was founded in 2012 by Toshio Yamada, who grew up in a family with deep roots in Japanese women's fashion. After studying in France and working at a Gucci boutique in Paris, he returned to Japan with a clear conviction: Japanese factories deserved to be recognized as world-class manufacturers in their own right.
At the time, Japan's domestic clothing production ratio had fallen to around 1%, as fast fashion and offshore manufacturing reshaped the industry. Many highly skilled factories — trusted by global luxury brands — were struggling to survive under relentless cost pressure.
The solution Yamada built was a factory-direct model: partnering directly with top domestic factories, co-developing products, and selling them without intermediaries. The factories themselves propose the pricing (a factory-preferred pricing model), and Factelier maintains a cost ratio of 50–60%, roughly 2–3 times the industry average.
By featuring the factory's name on every product tag, Factelier makes craftsmanship visible — transforming anonymous manufacturing into branded storytelling. Products span shirts, knitwear, denim, bags and leather accessories, each developed in partnership with a specialist factory.
Stores in Ginza (Tokyo) and Kumamoto function as fitting spaces rather than traditional retail — customers try items on, browse factory background information, and place orders for home delivery via tablet.
100% Made in Japan, with the factory's name on every tag
All Factelier products are made at Japanese factories. The factory name appears on the product tag, making the makers visible — a deliberate choice to shift value back to the craftspeople behind each piece.
Factory-preferred pricing: fair returns for quality work
Rather than squeezing factory prices to meet retail targets, Factelier lets factories set their preferred price. The result is a cost ratio of 50–60% — far above the typical 20–30% — funding the quality and care each piece deserves.
Hand-selected factories across Japan
Founder Yamada has personally visited more than 600 factories across Japan, selecting roughly 60 specialized partners. Each factory specializes in its category — shirts, knitwear, canvas bags, leather goods — and co-develops products with Factelier.
Fitting stores in Ginza and Kumamoto
Factelier's stores are fitting-first spaces where customers can try everything on, read about the factories behind each product, and then order for home delivery. No stock pressure, no impulse pushing — just informed buying.
