OIGEN

Fire and iron. No coating, no compromise. Nambu Tekki since 1852.

Founded in 1852 in Oshu City, Iwate — the birthplace of Nambu Tekki — OIGEN has spent over 170 years casting iron without chemical coatings or enamel. Their signature "bare, uncoated finish" lets the iron develop naturally with each use, building a seasoning that improves with time. From modern frying pans to traditional iron kettles, every piece is built to last a lifetime.

PROFILE Company & Brand Story

OIGEN (Oigen Casting) traces its roots to 1852 in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture — the heartland of Nambu Tekki, Japan's most celebrated iron casting tradition. For over 170 years, the foundry has passed down the art of casting iron using methods refined since the Edo period.

The brand's defining philosophy is a "bare, uncoated finish." No chemical paint, no enamel, no non-stick coating of any kind. Raw iron, cast and fired, ready to be seasoned by your own cooking. The result is a tool that grows with you — becoming more naturally non-stick and more responsive to heat over years of use.

Beyond frying pans, OIGEN produces traditional tetsubin (iron kettles) prized for the way they soften the taste of boiled water and gently supplement dietary iron with each cup.

Bare, Uncoated Finish

No chemical coating of any kind. The raw iron surface interacts directly with heat and food, developing a natural seasoning over time. The longer you use it, the better it performs.

Nambu Tekki Heritage, Since 1852

Cast in the same Oshu City foundries that have produced Japan's finest iron goods since the Edo period. Every piece carries over 170 years of craft knowledge and regional identity.

Frying Pans & Tetsubin (Iron Kettles)

OIGEN makes both modern induction-compatible frying pans and traditional tetsubin for boiling water. Boiling water in a tetsubin releases small amounts of easily absorbed iron and gives the water a noticeably rounder, softer taste.
